A Dubai court of First Instance ordered a medical center and a doctor to pay Dirhams 50,000 in damages for therapeutic error.

The mistake was found when a 32-year-old woman was treated with Botox on her nose.

The investigation found that non-surgical facial treatment caused permanent disability and that the doctor was not familiar with the technique of the Botox procedure.

The complainant approached the court alleging medical error.

The treatment error led to psychological trauma. The plaintiff stated that the fiancé had annulled their forthcoming marriage. She stated that she went to the medical center and met a doctor. She was injected with Botox and filler to change the shape of his nose. After leaving the treatment center, he experienced severe headache and swelling.

After returning to the treatment center, he was advised to put an ice pack on the area to reduce the pain and swelling.

The doctor prescribed painkillers and some cream when she came back from severe pain. Then the condition worsened and the nose became a wound.

She was referred to a surgeon who cleaned the place where the Botox was injected and applied cream on it.

Then transferred to the emergency department of the Rashid hospital and later to the emergency department of the Dubai Hospital and the Khalifa Hospital.

She complained to the public prosecution, exposing the doctor's medical errors.

The prosecution formed a medical committee of the Dubai Health Authority to study the case.

The committee's report confirmed that the doctor had performed a medical procedure with which he was not familiar. He was also unaware of the technicalities used in the process.

Therapeutic error found that the patient had a permanent defect of 10% of the shape of the nose. The court fined the medical center for allowing an unqualified doctor to perform the procedure.
